Downhole BHA monitoring and drilling performance improved Schlumberger's OptiDrill real-time drilling intelligence ser- vice provides actionable information to mitigate drilling risks and increase effi ciency. Using a downhole drilling mechanics and dynamics measurement sub, the service identifi es the type and severity of bottomhole assembly motions and calculates continuous borehole friction factors. With this information incorporated in a rigsite display of integrated downhole and surface data, the drilling team can reduce drillstring fail- ures, extend the life of cutting structures and detect sticking pipe tendencies. These data are simultaneously interpreted by remote experts, who collaborate with the drilling team to improve performance. The service helps the rigsite team to identify the optimal drilling parameters to improve ROP. Simultaneously, the remote experts focus on the interpreta- tion of longer-term trends, identifying performance limiters and anticipating risks. Data from the service, integrated with borehole caliper and images from LWD services, are used to evaluate the stability of the borehole throughout the drilling process. System enhances monitoring capabilities in downhole, HP/HT environments Teledyne Oil & Gas has developed and demonstrated key building blocks for a wet-mate optical feedthrough system (OFS) that will enable enhanced monitor- ing capabilities in a downhole, HP/HT environment. The OFS allows optical transmission lines through the christmas tree and tubing hanger system for the well- head's designed lifetime. Key OFS components developed by Tele- dyne include an epoxy-less ter- mination; bi-directional glass-to- metal sealed hermetic penetrator; nonelastomeric compensation system; and primary and sec- ondary seals designed to exclude sand, silt and debris. Operators are requiring more data from the downhole environment to max- imize oil recovery and operate the well economically and safely. Monitoring is critical to reducing costs, optimizing production and ensuring HSE. Optical connec- tions offer more sensor options to collect and transmit downhole data than ex- isting electrical wellhead feedthrough systems today, such as pressure and thermal profi les, fl ow characterization, erosion, leak detection and seismic activity. Real-time data enable identifi cation and avoidance of downhole hazards Weatherford has made digital systems a part of its core technology strategy, applying next-generation solutions across the portfolio. As a prime example, the OneSync software platform leverages real-time and recorded data to drive improved decision-making throughout the planning, execution and post-drill phases of well development. The platform encompasses a variety of analytical tools beginning with engineered planning software, which evaluates and optimizes the design of downhole drilling assemblies. Real-time data and ana- lytics enable the identifi cation and avoidance of down- hole hazards, which improves drilling effi ciency. The platform also incorporates post-drill analysis software to capture the lessons learned and key performance in- dicators, which enhance the next planning cycle. Addi- tional modules for training, simulation and operational control improve effi ciency and connectivity across all drilling activities.
